What you will be able to do
In this exciting position, you’ll play a key role in the creation of next-generation electric vehicle concepts. You will be responsible for the test and validation of xEV traction inverter high voltage (HV) components. This involves supporting the testing and development of HV power electronics for current and future model electrified powertrains. You will:
Collaborate with Power Electronic, Motor Hardware and Controls Engineers to develop standardized validation and characterization test procedures for HV components
Identify internal lab customers’ testing needs and required timing
Ensure accurate and timely delivery of testing results
Direct lab technicians on HV bench/cell setup, as well as instrumentation and data collection requirements
Operate HV test benches and perform test in accordance with instructions provide by lab test requestor
Process testing data, confirm accuracy of results and prepare detailed reports
Help create and implement test automation and data analysis scripts
Support development of processes and software tools to improve quality, analysis and reporting of test data
Collaborate with engineers across the electrified powertrain organization to develop and share HV component testing methodologies
Provide lab safety talks, encouraging and supporting safe testing practices within HV laboratory
Support other functional testing teams (e.g. Hardware-in-Loop (HIL), Electric Motor Dyno and Calibration, Vehicle, etc.)
Support Root Cause Analysis for field issues
Support component benchmark activities
The minimum requirements we seek
Bachelor Degree in Engineering
1+ year of experience with HV power systems and power electronics components (e.g. HV power modules, power inductors, HV capacitors, etc.) (coursework/internship/co-op experience allowed)
1+ year of experience using electrical test and measurement equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, power meters, voltage/current probes, etc.) (coursework/internship/co-op experience allowed)
Our preferred requirements
Master’s Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in power systems/power electronics
2+ years of experience working in a HV laboratory testing environment
Experience related to testing traction inverters including design verification testing, thermal testing, durability testing and test automation
Experienced using test automation and data analysis software (e.g. AVL Lynx, ATI Vision, MATLAB, etc.)
Understanding of HV power electronic components (active and passive) and experience developing associated characterization/validation testing methods
Knowledge of high power/high voltage inverter design topologies
Familiarity with HV safety training/standard methodologies
Knowledge of ISO test equipment calibration requirements/practices
Knowledge of Microcontroller operation and interface – CAN based communications
Strong problem-solving skills with ability to understand sophisticated test setups and manage multiple tasks
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated, eager to take ownership and deliver results with minimal direction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
