At our Adrian/Ann Arbor site, we are currently looking for aChemist to join our growing team.The primary duty of the Chemist is to provide support to the Performance Silicones business team in application areas as composites, thermal insulation, chemical industries, printing and others through technical service, product maintenance, and customer applications activities thereby creating value for Wacker Chemical Corporation and customers. The Chemist will drive development of innovative solutions using fumed silica and silicone technologies for the above applications that meet specific customer & market needs.The position would be starting at our Adrian, MI facility and will later move to the new development center in Ann Arbor, MI in 2022.Job ResponsibilitiesIndependent design and execution of experiments in the lab, analysis and interpretation of data and drawing of conclusions. Communicate results in an effective manner to both internal and external stakeholders. Carefully organize data and presentations to support technical service utilizing multiple software programs: Microsoft programs, electronic lab notebook, and SAPProvide technical support to distributors & direct customers in the use of Wacker fumed silica products, assist in customer and distributor training in the use of these technologiesWork with the business team to manage the product portfolio including assisting in Material Coordinator (MC) and Chemist of Record (COR) responsibilities such as raw material approvals, MAF processing, inventory management, dispositions, and othersWork with QC and Production personnel to resolve customer issues, and coordinate with QC on test methods and other technical issuesResponsible for establishing and maintaining safe working conditions in the lab, including setting approved work practices, equipment design and maintenance, and maintaining lab chemical inventoryQualificationsBachelors degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field Masters degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field, preferred3+ years of related industrial experienceAdvanced chemistry skills for practical formulation work with silicone chemistry, fumed silica or advanced application knowledge in composites, coatings or other chemical industriesKnowledge of structure, property performance relationships in polymer coatings and/or basic knowledge of interfacial phenomena and rheologyAbility to design experiments, analyze results and write reports summarizing data and findings with well thought out conclusionsRoot Cause Analysis, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilityStrong interpersonal skills to interact in a collaborative fashion with customers and other team membersStrong communication skills, both verbal and written to provide technical support to customers efficiently and effectively&l
