Job Summary

Amentum is looking for an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic to join our team in Ann Arbor, MI. When you join our team, you will be supporting two (2) Research and Development facilities in the Ann Arbor area and be responsible for the maintenance of the facility and the major test equipment at the site. To be successful in this role the Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic must be multi-crafted with their primary technical background in electrical with a strong PLC background (Allen-Bradley and Siemens) as well as pneumatics, hydraulics controls. Secondary knowledge of test equipment – engine and transmission dynamometers and environmental chambers would be extremely beneficial.

This Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic will lead a small technical team to support technical operations at the client’s facility. The scope of service includes the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the preventative maintenance activities at the client’s site. The equipment included in the scope is:

  • Engine and Transmission Dynamometers

  • Fans

  • Environmental Chambers

  • Pumps and Exhaust systems

  • HVAC Units

  • Hydraulic and electrical systems

Major Role and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair automated machines and equipment as well as related mechanical equipment

  • Understand and execute instrumentation and equipment calibration, for optimum performance

  • Read and understand electrical/electronic schematics

  • Program and modify ladder logic and function block languages

  • Program, modify and interface with various MMI (HMI) devices

  • Leverage proficiency in electronic data communication methods and techniques such as Profibus, profi-net, SCADA, Ethernet and remote I/O wired and wireless communication platforms

  • Demonstrate through understanding of AC/DC motor control, including thyristor drives such as Siemens, ABB, Omron, Reliance, Saftronics, Klockner Moeller, Ceda, GE, Westinghouse

  • Demonstrate through understanding of hydraulic and pneumatics as related to electronic controls, including Vickers, Rexroth, Parker and various other manufacturers

  • Act on familiarity with feedback systems, PID controllers and servo systems and direct slide wire feedback

  • Perform as a team lead on maintenance and repair projects

  • Conceive and realize automated solution implementing controls schemes

  • Identify, review, and recommend activities and upgrades/retrofits to improve maintenance and operation methods and equipment performance

  • Perform all other job related responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of experience as an Electrical/Electronic Controls Specialist in an industrial production environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Automation Technology or related program

  • Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradley/Siemens 7/Fanuc /Mitsubishi 840d controllers

  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing process mechanical systems such as conveyors, filtration systems, and coolant systems to OEM specifications

  • Experience with alignments and machine geometry using precision calibration tools

  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing and working safely with 480v 3 phase electrical components

  • Experience utilizing measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, various type gauges, and calibers to set tolerances to OEM Specifications

  • Experience using ball bar and laser equipment for alignments, calibration, and compensations of CNC controlled machine tools

  • NFPA-70E Training
