Terumo Cardiovascular Group Engineer II, Product Development in Ann Arbor, Michigan
At Terumo Cardiovascular, we develop, manufacture and distribute medical devices for cardiac and vascular surgery with an emphasis on cardiopulmonary bypass, intra-operative monitoring and vascular grafting. This includes a full-line of perfusion products, endoscopic vessel harvesting products and surgical stabilization products.

This position is responsible for driving design changes to existing medical device products, including but not limited to investigating, planning, and implementing improvements in and/or additions to current products. Additionally, this position supports product troubleshooting, investigations of product non-conformances and customer complaints, root cause analyses, planning of corrective/preventive actions, evaluation and testing, and verification/validation activities. The position requires an understanding of engineering fundamentals and great verbal and written communication for collaboration with other cross-functional Associates.
In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.
Execute project tasks according to project plan.
Utilize engineering skills to solve engineering problems at the component through system level. Conduct testing utilizing existing test protocols or develop new ones as needed.
Apply engineering knowledge to the design and development of new products as well as product changes and enhancements.
Work with other functional areas within Terumo CVS to coordinate introduction of new products and improvements of existing products/processes.
Contribute to the intellectual property position of the Company via invention and patent applications, and documentation in technical notebooks.
Develop and maintain knowledge of medical device industry, including understanding of current technologies and trends, through actions such as professional memberships, attendance at conferences and/or seminars, subscription to trade magazines, etc.
Work with outside suppliers and consultants as required.
Gather, track, and analyze data for meetings etc., as required.
Maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, and lab notebooks.
Develop an awareness of current patent and journal literature in areas of responsibility.
Develop knowledge and understanding of products, customers, and customer needs of Company.
Perform other duties as assigned.
- Requires a four-year college degree in an engineering discipline and a minimum of three years of experience in an engineering environment or a Master's degree in an engineering discipline and a minimum of two years of experience in an engineering environment. Basic computer software skills, i.e. Microsoft Office.
