Job Overview:

Directs, coordinates and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects. Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes research data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.

  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.

  • Prepare product CAD 3D or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.

  • Exchange customer related data through existing customer portals (GM/Ford/FCA/VW/Nissan, etc)

  • Escalate development status if necessary through regular engineering reviews

  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.

  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.

  • Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.

  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.

  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.

  • Supports design from prototyping through production, maintaining full documentation.

  • Work with vendors to assure components meet specifications.

  • Supply external customers with timely computer assisted engineering data to support program.

  • Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.

  • Issue disclosure for all design concepts in a timely manner, and support team disclosure submissions based on working idea generations.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B. S.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office; Internet software and Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word Processing software. Must have proficient experience in AUTO CAD design applications.

  • Must have knowledge of engineering product design, industrial design, computer aided design engineering, and materials science.

  • Must have knowledge of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacturing and distribution of goods.

  • Must have general knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications.

  • A general knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools, and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, models, and mechanics.

  • Must have a basic knowledge or training in 5's, Lockout & tagout, Hazcom, Plant Safety, ISO 14001, HazWaste, and environmental and quality standards.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • A master’s degree in related field

  • SAP experience

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing and /or engineering and sales driven businesses

  • Experience working in a Germany based (international) organization
