Job Introduction

The Chief Engineer, Cameras is an active member of the Chief Engineering Group and serves as the top technical leader for Magna Electronics camera products by establishing camera architectures, interfacing with key suppliers and assisting in winning customer business. The Chief Engineer also supports key stakeholders including: leadership team, product line, sales, engineering, and manufacturing to deliver better camera products for better prices. Considered an expert in the many facets of product development and leading teams as well as steering a technical organization.

Major Responsibilities

Product:

  • Responsible for camera architecture definition
  • Support the product line to develop camera product/feature roadmap and to determine market technology needs.

Platform / Core Engineering:

  • Align supplier technologies with Magna Electronics camera roadmap
  • Support the core engineering team by setting direction and defining the core building blocks
  • Approve the scope of core projects and participate in review of core projects

Technology:

  • Identify and propose advanced technologies for camera designs and manufacturing
  • Works with Magna R&D and Magna Electronics advanced department to scour new technologies and work with external partners to develop new technologies that can be applied to Magna cameras
  • Assist in planning of advanced projects and participate in advanced project reviews

Suppliers:

  • Establish, maintain and be the technical interface for key camera component suppliers (lens, imager, ISP companion chip, processor, LVDS/Ethernet, etc…)
  • Ensures early engagement of purchasing in the component supplier development/selection process
  • Influence supplier roadmaps, align supplier technology with Magna camera roadmap
  • Lead the effort of developing new camera component suppliers
  • Supports purchasing department in commercial negotiation as needed

Customer:

  • Interact and work with OEM customers to gather and influence customer roadmaps and support customer tech shows and reviews
  • Support the product line and sales in marketing and tech shows
  • Support developing and maintaining customer relationship related to camera technologies

Quoting:

  • Defines or approves the technical proposal/architecture for customer quotes
  • Support core and application engineering in camera quoting activities (engineering effort estimate, BOM development, spec analysis, feature readiness assessment, spec analysis, risk and mitigation identification)
  • Support technical requirement negotiation/clarification with customer

General:

  • Manage and guide camera Technical Specialists
  • Understand and support the “big picture” (Technical, Product Space, etc.)
  • Works with manufacturing teams to understand capabilities and challenges to proactively and cooperatively develop processes and tools to support world class camera products.
  • Develop and maintain connections and relationships to university and industry experts to ensure Magna Electronics is up to date on latest trends and standards related to camera technologies
  • Support engineering leadership in the resolution of technical disputes between team members
  • Help to build an organization that can consistently satisfy global customer technical requirements
Knowledge and Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering Mechanical/Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering - Required

Master’s degree in engineering Mechanical/Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering or Technical Management - Required

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 20 years deep and relevant product development experience in the automotive electronics industry
  • Minimum of 15 years of demonstrated experience in a Technical Leadership role
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in a Managerial role of a technical teams
