Qualifications
The Side Airbag Design & Release Engineer (DRE) will be responsible for the design and development of side airbags and side airbag systems to meet quality, craftsmanship, functional design and build objectives. The DRE will interface with purchasing, product design office, testing, manufacturing and supply base groups to achieve program objectives. The candidate will be responsible to assure that all program milestones, deliverables and targets are met for side airbags including cost, weight and investment.
The roles and responsibilities also include but are not limited to:
Manage supplier design and open issues reviews
Reviewing testing and data
Writing change notices
Resolving plant related issues with urgency
Completing compliance reports
Reviewing owner’s manuals and service manuals
Validating technical cost reduction ideas
Conducting commodity benchmarking
Reviewing best practices to meet program requirements
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineer or equivalent from an ABET accredited or equivalent program
Three years of relevant experience
Experience in airbag design and development and/ or restraints
Demonstrated experience with industry practices for airbags and regulatory requirements related to vehicle safety
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in engineering design and development from concept through launch
Experience in airbag design and development
Demonstrated experience with industry practices for side airbags and regulatory requirements related to vehicle safety
Experience with NX / Teamcenter tools
Familiar with CAE impact analysis tools
Experience using proactive quality tools (Design for Six Sigma)
Experience using reactive quality tools (Kepner-Tregoe / Shainin)
DFSS and/or Reactive Green Belt
