Job Overview


The Power electronics design lead is responsible for:

  • Development and design of advanced high and low voltage Electrification Electronics for electrified Powertrain applications

  • Development and design of advanced high power and torque density eMotors and EDMs (Electric Drive Module consist of eMotor, Inverter and Gearbox) for electrified Powertrain applications

  • Ensuring the engineering processes, methods and best practices are followed in developing existing and future technologies

  • Staffing, managing and leading an engineering team

  • Competitive analysis, coordination of advanced technology partnerships and participation in DoE and IEEE activities

    This is a remote role that reports to Auburn Hills, MI.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum 3 years of Power electronics research and/or product development experience

  • Understanding of the key functional parameters that can be varied in order to meet higher level system requirements, and the trade-off analyses that are required to determine the optimum system architecture to meet the vehicle level functional objectives

  • Understanding of the engineering development processes to ensure robust design development

  • Ability to review and approve technical documentation including DFMEA’s, DVP&R’s; reviewing DFMEA documentation to ensure proper flow for function, failure mode, and design controls which lead directly in to DVP&R’s;

  • Understanding of industry trends in areas of power electronics, eMotors, power conversion controls, and directing advanced strategic development

  • Ability to define product requirements, select/specify/validate critical power components

  • Ability to develop and standardize processes and methods for product concepts and designs

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and directions during supplier tech reviews and critical design reviews

  • Ability to plan for resources, timelines and milestones for each of the managing projects

  • Fundamental understanding of simulation tools such as Dynamic system simulators (Saber, MATLAB), Circuit simulation (Saber, SPICE), Power electronic device modeling (Saber), and Electro-thermal modeling

  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to work in cross functional team environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
