As part of our company’s performance transformation, we’re investing in quality improvements and creating a stronger, centralized Quality Organization. Quality Reliability is looking to increase our expertise in Powertrain Software Quality and OBD. With the increase in emissions regulation and complexity in the powertrain systems including hybrid applications, multiple controllers play a part in the regulations to meet the stringent emissions regulations. There is a need in Quality Reliability to escalate its knowledge in the area of Software Quality and OBD Reliability.

The Quality organization is currently seeking a seeking a talented Quality Reliability Engineer within the Powertrain Quality Reliability Engineering group in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The Quality Reliability Engineer will be the point person for reliable development of electronic control systems and other systems. This position will be responsible for ensuring launch readiness of new technologies within specified vehicle program timelines. This position will be able to find software weaknesses and lack of OBD robustness, and work with Engineering to propose improvements to Software and Calibrations. The position is also responsible for ensuring that lessons learned from past experiences are institutionalized in current engineering processes. The selected individual will have experience in working cross-functionally and possess a broad knowledge of product development techniques and tools.

The specific responsibilities are:

  • Be responsible for the execution of new reliability process on Electronic Control Systems and other systems

  • Use strong communication skills to support meetings at all levels of the company, including senior leadership

  • Establish partnerships both internally and externally, and influence without direct authority

  • Exhibit commitment and dedication in delivering a premier product to the consumer

  • Represent the “Voice of the Customer” to the platform teams

  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment to delivering results and championing achievements

  • Exhibit a willingness to do things differently and consistently translate ideas into actions that deliver results

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills while working in a team environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical or electrical engineering

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Engineering (preferred automotive, or quality reliability)

  • Experience working with or leading diverse teams (e.g. global, cross-functional, union/union represented, etc.)

  • Basic understanding of vehicle electronic systems and components and their functions

  • Knowledge in Matlab and Simulink modelling

  • Basic computing skills covering standard office software

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting to various types of audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, Reliability, or a related field or significant applied experience

  • Certified Quality or Reliability Engineer

  • Understanding CAN and LIN bus communications, understanding basics of Architecture System Structures (communication monitoring/ latency, sensor monitoring/ latency)

  • Understanding Software functional diagrams and flow structure

  • Familiarity with OBD I and OBD II diagnostic requirements

  • Familiarity with Reliability and how statistics can help understand OBD diagnostic robustness
