Qualifications
The Propulsion System Calibration Engineer — Powertrain dyno for a new electrified propulsion system will develop calibrations with both electrified and conventional technologies in a state of the art powertrain dyno cell. The individual will be responsible for developing, testing, and validating system calibrations that achieve world-class fuel economy, and drivability meeting current and future emission standards.
The Propulsion System Calibration Engineer — Powertrain dyno will plan and coordinate day to day activities of dynamometers, and will include interaction with technicians and support engineers. The scope of responsibility spans the application and optimization of calibration and control system for hybrid, electric, and conventional propulsion modes.
The role will work cross functionally to develop and execute calibration strategies across the functional areas of core engine, drivability, emissions, vehicle integration, OBD, torque security, e motor and battery. He/she will make data based decisions to document all changes through rigorous development and test plans. The Propulsion System Calibration Engineer — Powertrain dyno will present and justify changes to a lead calibrator, chief engineer, and senior management as appropriate.
This individual will have also demonstrated the ability to work well with others. They must be a team player, supporting and promoting team accomplishments versus personal achievement.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics from an ABET accredited university
Minimum of FIVE (5) years combined work experience in the area of powertrain development and/or calibration
Minimum of TWO (2) years’ experience using test cell automation to conduct unattended testing
Knowledge of electrified powertrain fundamentals
Advanced understanding of gasoline engine efficiency, performance, and emissions
Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
Experience root causing first install conformance (napkin schematics, wiring, CAN, facilities, calibration)
Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently
Knowledge of standard and regulatory test procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFS) proactive engineering methods
Experience in Powertrain Control solution development (powertrain control algorithms, On-board Diagnostics/ OBD, embedded software)
Strong knowledge of the propulsion system (hardware, calibration, controls)
System development experience in airflow, combustion, thermodynamics, or after treatment areas
Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques
Proficient in Matlab / Simulink and propulsion system control theory
