Qualifications
FCA is seeking a qualified Functional Safety Engineer who will be involved in the development of vehicle features, including semi and fully automated driver assistance systems and enablers, to which ISO 26262 is applied in a manner consistent with the functional safety lifecycle and in accordance with the quality, performance and timing requirements as defined by the FCA Functional Safety Process. The Functional Safety Engineer will be responsible for performing functional safety analyses and executing related tasks for FCA vehicles. This includes performing vehicle and system level hardware and software analyses to identify potential safety impacts, developing safety requirements and supporting other activities related to defining the required Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) for systems, subsystems and components. In addition, the engineer will interface with other vehicle teams and suppliers. The candidate must have the desire to learn new processes and technologies.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Ensure the completeness/availability of all functional safety documents necessary for sourcing
Define the functional and technical safety requirements and create the technical documentation as required by the functional safety process.
Define the safety plan and support the definition of the technical validation plan of the system
Participate in the EE architecture design discussions for safety related functions including both in-house and supplier led development and ensure that safety requirements are adequate and implemented
Perform and review safety analyses (CCA/CMA/DFA/DFMEA/FTA and FMEDA) as required for EE systems and safety related vehicle function
Identify critical issues and non-compliance with any of the applicable requirements of ISO26262 and the actions needed to meet the ISO26262 requirements associated with the assigned safety integrity level of the system and the relevant safety concept
Support product development as member of cross functional tea
Review supplier functional safety deliverables to assure FCA requirements are supported
Lead or participate in reviews of functional safety process work products
Coach engineering teams on functional safety process
Teach classes to FCA employees on functional safety process and analysis
Actively participate in functional safety workgroups, as assigned, to support development or improvement in processes

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent (Materials/Chemical/Civil/ Aerospace/Computer) from an ABET accredited or equivalent university
5 years of related engineering experience
Exposure to and familiarity with Functional Safety and System Safety
Demonstrated ability to apply the V-model development process
Demonstrated competency in Systems Engineering
Experience with DVP&R and DFMEA creation and execution
Good problem solving skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited university
3 years of experience within the area of functional safety
8 years of related engineering experience
Understanding of Safety of the Intended function (SOTIF)
Trained and certified in ISO26262
