The Senior Professional Manager- Battery Pack Design Engineering is responsible to lead high voltage traction battery pack design engineering and development activities for FCA global xEV pack programs. This will include: leading a team of engineers and designers to develop the designs and meet all production design and development deliverables; and oversight of key design and engineering work including all design work products, supplier technical direction for purchased components, and product validation. The ideal candidate exudes a passion for excellence in engineering and seeks solutions to challenging electrification problems with strong personal leadership and communication skills and foundational understanding of engineering principles.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the development of core battery component and system designs for Battery packs, modules, thermal components, and enclosures that meet regulatory, customer, and internal requirements
Conducting and leading design reviews and resolve design issues with engineering teams
Leading the fully detailed prototype and production engineering designs and releases to agreed development milestones
Leading the scope and deliverable management of 3rdparty engineering service providers to support design and analysis deliverables
Leading the team in completion of production-intent 3D CAD, and 2D drawings
Approving the Battery System design work products including 3D CAD, DFMEAs, etc.
Leading interaction with sourced to print suppliers to ensure manufactured parts meet design intent
Leading the activities for engineering analysis and validation of battery pack designs
Leading the engineering support of prototype battery system builds ensuring parts are on time
Coordinating activity closely with product development & prototype/production manufacturing teams during the design process
Leading the team doing pack design in troubleshooting issues found in analysis, validation, DRBTRs, etc.
Bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, Systems, or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited, or ABET equivalent university
Minimum 8 years engineering experience, including minimum 7 years automotive industry experience in product development including mechanical design and engineering of series production products
Experience with design CAD Software
Strong understanding of engineering mechanical analysis principles and techniques
Prior experience leading engineering teams
Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical data as well as effectively communicating with suppliers
Ability/experience working across enterprise disciplines (purchasing, legal, engineering, manufacturing & operations, etc.)
Challenges the status quo and strives for continuous improvement
Abides by safety standards and protocols
Master’s degree in engineering, technical management or business administration disciplines
Minimum 10 years of experience in automotive component design for structural components including some experience in battery systems
Working understanding of engineering mechanical and thermal analysis modeling tools
Minimum 3 years of experience managing engineering development teams
