h2Mechanical Designer/h2Job DescriptionMechanical Designer, Senior DD Design has been servicing the auto industry for 20 years in a broad spectrum of services including machine / automation design, extrusion process and tooling design, gages, fixtures, etc. We also operate a full service machine shop. Some of customers include Delphi Automotive, Nexteer, American Axle, Michigan Sugar to name a few. The company is currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer.Responsibilities: The Senior Mechanical Designer will work under the direction of the Lead Senior Mechanical Engineer and / or Project Engineer. This position will participate in the design and detailing for various types of machine and automation design. The Senior Mechanical Designer will work beside other designers and lead project detailers within more complex engineering projects. Major Areas of Responsibility •Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports. •Strong knowledge and actively engages in the design and development of mechanical projects in the AutoCAD 2D and 3D environment, including checking. •Mentor other designers in layout and detailing tasks. •Able to lead the work of other designers. •Assist in new department designs and concepts. •Assist in new department in cost cutting measures •Prepares creative designs or related drawings or details. •Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed •English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. •Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. •Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, Principle knowledge of various types of steel, coatings, and heat treat specs to apply to a specific use within the various details that comprise the machine.Qualifications Basic Skills Abilities •Time Management — Managing one's own time and the time of others. •Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. •Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.Education Experience •Degree from CAD training school or a combination of relevant work experience with automation machine design, extrusion process and tooling design, gage and fixture design will also qualify. •4 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer (Exceptionally skilled designers may have a shorter time line.) •AutoCAD experience in 2D and 3D. •Experience in SolidWorks, Solid Edge or NX Unigraphics is a major plus. •Experience with various machine design / fixture / gages is preferred. •Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated Physical Abilities Remain stationary for 50% of the time; move/traverse throughout the office to access file cabinets and office equipment.
