Job Description

  • Plan and conduct FEA/CAE analysis of engine components/systems with respect to the durability attribute – stress/strain analysis, HCF, distortion, heat transfer analysis, TMF – metallic and composite/polymer materials

  • Provide directions and recommendations for the design of engine components/systems based on results obtained from FEA/CAE/Optimization analyses

  • Apply analytical reliability & robustness methodologies to optimize engine components and systems

  • Apply engineering principles & analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve engine components CAE guidelines/procedures

  • Collaborate with components/systems engineers to provide design directions and confirmations to achieve targets for performance, quality, function, weight, and cost

  • Support expedited concern resolution with cross-functional teams including the design, manufacturing, quality, etc.

  • Collaborate with components/system engineers to resolve engine components/systems issues for both prototype and production programs

Skills Required

  • In-depth knowledge about the finite element method, mechanics of engineering materials and solid mechanics

  • Proven track record of applying the principles of materials strength, fatigue, creep, thermomechanical fatigue, heat transfer, fluid-structure interaction, vibration, etc. to engine/powertrain components

  • In-depth knowledge about engine design and engine operation

  • High level of motivation to address quality and engineering issues to improve total customer satisfaction and to function in a learning environment

Experience Required

  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or equivalent from an accredited US institution

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience applying CAE durability and optimization methods in the design of engine components/systems

  • In-depth knowledge about the finite element method, mechanics of engineering materials and solid mechanics – metals and composite/polymer materials

  • Proven track record of applying the principles of materials strength, fatigue, creep, thermomechanical fatigue, heat transfer, fluid-structure interaction, vibration, etc. to engine/powertrain components

  • In-depth knowledge about engine design and operation

  • High level of motivation to address quality and engineering issues to improve total customer satisfaction and to function in a learning environment

  • Proven problem-solving abilities

  • Experience working with global teams

  • Comfortable working in an environment where problems are not always well-defined and interested in learning new tools and techniques

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools

  • Experience with Simulia ABAQUS, Tosca, MSC NASTRAN, FEMFAT, CATIA V5, MoldFlow, Digimat, LMS Virtual Lab, Altair suite (Hypermesh, Hyperview, Optistruct), Simlab, Matlab, nCode

Experience Preferred

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or equivalent from an accredited US institution

  • Proficiency in the use of problem-solving tools (Six Sigma, DOE, etc.)

  • Six Sigma Green Belt trained

  • Data analytics

Education Required

  • MSME or equivalent

Education Preferred

  • Ph.D.
