Our Business Designer Leads combine strategic thinking and human-centered design processes to think differently about existing business models, and to craft and build new ventures. You will collaborate with a broad team of designers and stakeholders to help define strategy and growth opportunities for projects through designing, prototyping and bringing to life new products and services.
As a Business Design Lead you will…
Lead multidisciplinary teams through the design process, where harmonious collaboration is imperative.
Inspire teams through collaboration as well as direction, vision, and planning of all aspects of project work and deliverables.
Explore the business model possibilities behind new concepts using research and financial modeling to shape and influence design.
Design business models that enhance and extend consumer experiences and create new opportunities for revenue across time horizons.
Translate business strategy and business models into actionable insights for the project team.
Gain a deep understanding of external market context for future businesses or services.
Guide teams through the business viability process to help assess investments in new products, services, or ventures.
Collaborate with key project stakeholders to understand their strategic priorities, key challenges and opportunities.
Be an ambassador for Ford, building relationships with external business partners in order to test product and service pilots.
Create and deliver inspiring presentations to senior executives and external audiences.
Support development of strategic priorities and initiatives.
Partner with Business Development and Finance regarding invest/buy opportunities.
Balance team autonomy and guidance.
Manage director support of content work, ensuring design critiques and key check-ins are scheduled and well organized.
Manage the team budget, including compensation for participants and team travel.
Manage communication with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Support development of lab Business Design practice that partners with designers to build, refine and test prototypes in ways that foster strategic business growth.
The minimum requirements we seek:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Strategy, Engineering, or the liberal arts
Four or more years’ industry experience in areas that include: corporate strategy, enterprise leadership in a startup, marketing, product development, business intelligence and analytics, management consulting, or ventures
At least two years’ experience of leading highly collaborative teams in human-centered design
Our preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Ventures, Corporate Strategy, or equivalent.
Experience of using human-centered design, design thinking principles or methods in a formal, in-person setting.
Experience as an entrepreneur or product owner.
Demonstrable rigor in designing and implementing or redefining business models, products and services while driving strategic growth.
Experience of taking offerings to market and scaling.
Experience of complex business model development, scenario planning, and forecasting.
Experience of interpreting and translating between research insights, business strategy, and design of products and services.
Knowledge of or background in new transportation technologies and services.
Experience of designing and/or facilitating group collaboration workshops.
Passionate about automotive and transportation industry.
