Jacobs Facilities Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan
The Engine and Fuel System Labs Facility Engineering activity is looking for a detail oriented, self-starter to join our team. The prospective engineer will be responsible for the successful design, and delivery of facility engineering control system projects in support of testing at multiple testing facilities.
Controls Engineer Position Duties:
Develop PLC program flow charts, subroutines and ladder logic to control miscellaneous test cell fluids and HVAC systems. Integrate system controls with test cell systems
Direct and manage the design, installation, and application of test cell instrumentation and control systems used in support of engine Research, Development, and related components testing.
Specify, develop and design the control interfaces for test cell mechanical equipment used in support of engine dynamometer testing.
Specify and develop designs for precision fluid flow measurement and fluid temperature control systems used in experimental engine testing.
Work in collaboration with customers, test engineers, and support staff to interpret and translate testing needs into accurate design documents. Optimize the design and tuning of new control systems to maximize test efficiency, increase level of automation, and minimize energy consumption.
Serve as a technical resource for the design, estimating, and scheduling of equipment installation projects. Interact with AE firms, CCM partners and equipment suppliers in the design and implementation of new test cell equipment and control system projects.
Support the design and development of interfaces to central building facility controls to optimize operating efficiencies. Support predictive maintenance program, enable remote monitoring, data logging, and enhance automated testing.
Work with skilled trades, other team members and technicians during the installation, modification and commissioning of new control systems.
Assure the accurate completion of new or modified control systems documentation and drawings. Conduct training and Safety reviews.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university and one (1) year of engineering experience OR a Masters' Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Working knowledge of heat transfer, fluids, and industrial HVAC systems
Experienced with programming Allen Bradley PLC systems: PLC5, SLC, Micrologix and Control Logix platforms using RSLogix 5, 500, 5000 and RSLinx.
Familiarity with Wonderware In-Touch, Panelbuilder 32, RSView, and Honeywell Tridium Niagra.
Experienced with programming HMI systems and interfacing them to PLC’s.
Knowledgeable in use of PLC communications protocols.
Experienced with industrial instrumentation, precision fluids measurement, control valves, low level signal conditioning and wiring practices in hazardous locations.
Experience with applying industrial closed loop control techniques to engine fluids conditioning systems
Background in IC engine dynamometer testing and related test measurement systems
Experience using AUTOCAD to prepare instrumentation system PID's, and layouts.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Strong technical leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills.

Able to lift up to 50 lbs, engine parts such as intakes, exhaust parts, heads, drive shafts, and other related engine parts and accessories- 25%

Engine high noise level while running in the test cell, the employees are not exposed to engine speeds over idle while in the cell.

Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary. Must have flexibility of work days to cover weekend testing requirements.
Other Essential Functions

Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to self or others. Travel to and from customer’s locations and the test fields may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
