Burns & McDonnell Assistant Electrical Designer / Electrical Distribution Designer in Detroit, Michigan
The Electrical Distribution Designer is a position reporting to the T&D Department Manager and will be required to provide technical design support for assigned projects. These projects will include overhead and underground distribution design between 4kV and 40kV.
This role requires the ability to handle multiple projects and to prioritize work. This position will be responsible for thedevelopment an array of challenging items including the drafting and design of engineering deliverables on multiple complex utility distribution projects. This position will require interface with utility clients and collaboration with multiple offices. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Compilation of design packages for construction.
Develop, modify and review design packages according to client and/or company design standards.
Maintains current knowledge of design and drafting procedures. Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for review.
Perform quality reviews of design packages produced by others.
Provide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects.
Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with clients as well as provide technical leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members. This position will require strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills, as well as demonstrate the ability to function in a team environment.
Bachelor's degree in Computer-Aided Design or related program and 2 years' experience in the design, operation, construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines between 4kV and 40k, or Associate's degree in relevant program plus 4 years' related experience or 5 years of progressive distribution drafting and design experience.
Exposure to utility design standards, NESC, and distribution construction techniques.
Education: Two-year technical graduate is preferred but not required.
Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of the latest versions of AutoCAD and Micro Station. Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS).Strong computer design skills and the ability to learn new software design systems.
Self-motivated with strong verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with clear expectations and timelines, and to prioritize work.
Ability to take direction from and work collaboratively with individuals at all levels in the organization in a team environment.
