Senior Mechanical DesignerJob Code: 2019-MECH-MI-005 Location: Detroit, Michigan Department: 1240 Mechanical Engineering FT/PT Status: Full-timePRIMARY FUNCTIONProvide support during the development of design and technical systems for projects from schematics through construction administration.TYPICAL DUTIESbull;Design HVAC ductwork sizing and layout, HVAC load calculations, HVAC pipe sizing and layout.bull;Understand the design of mechanical HVAC systems for buildings (plumbing and fire protection) preferably in science and technology, healthcare and corporate and commercial facilities.bull;Understand the coordination aspects of all design disciplines and how they impact the project.bull;Visualize complex layout parameters prior to inputting into a 3D model.bull;Receive system concepts from discipline lead engineer and develop into detailed system design and documentation.bull;Develop detailed modeled systems from minimal conceptual input from project lead engineer.bull;Conduct basic interpretations of codes, standards and other similar materials.bull;Perform Revit design for the Mechanical Engineering Discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs.bull;Work with architectural, interior, and the other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of the project lead engineer/designer or Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leader.bull;Perform field work as directed by the project lead engineer/designer or Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leader.bull;Perform basic calculations to analyze and design individual building mechanical system components.bull;Assist with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.bull;Assist with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.bull;Perform other duties as assigned by the project lead engineer or Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leader.bull;Direct junior designers/engineers in project duties.bull;Participate and collaborate in project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.bull;Understand mechanical engineering concepts and effectively communicate ideas to others.bull;Interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.bull;Take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from the project lead engineer or Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leader.JOB QUALIFICATIONSbull;Minimum 10 years of experience specific to building systems.bull;Associate's Degree or studies toward a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an engineering-related curriculum from an accredited college or university is preferred.bull;A developed understanding of Revit and the use of it as a modeling and BIM tool.bull;Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.bull;Experience with Trane Trace preferred.bull;Team-oriented problem solving skills and decision-making ability.bull;Ability to organize work and multi-task.bull;Detail oriented, self-motivated, collaborative, enthusiastic and flexible.bull;Good written and verbal communication skills.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSbull;Capable of traveling to and from project sites for attending client, project and construction meetings.bull;Ability to access existing and new project sites for observation, investigation and evaluation purposes.bull;Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes.bull;Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment w
