FCA US, LLC Transmission Controls Technical Fellow in Detroit, Michigan

The Transmission Controls Technical Fellow is responsible for delivering world class transmission clutch control strategies, especially physics model based. The candidate should be able to facilitate model-based development within the organization, and promote training; she/he should be familiar with the industry’s current and future transmission control strategies. This includes different transmission design configurations such as DCT, manual and automatic transmissions.The major areas of responsibility include:•Development and ownership of FCA’s Clutch Control Strategy•Create and implementation of clutch control methods for FCA’s production and future programs•Create and conduct group training on shift controls, this includes clutch adaptation, synchronization between apply and release clutch during shifts, and transmission drive strategy•Apply and utilize virtual tools to prove out algorithm feasibly and benefit•Familiar with advanced controls solution such as Model Based Predictive controls, optimization and adaptation controls•Support decoupled projects and advance state of the art solutions in transmission controls•Engage in one-on-one mentoring when requested by individual engineers to enhance their expertise•Assist as needed on specific projects and programs•Represent FCA in industry groups such as SAEA successful candidate should be experienced with using and supporting the following tools and activities:•Deep knowledge in Transmission shift controls (Upshifts, Downshifts and Garage Shifts)•Clutch to Clutch controls during Power On upshift•Clutch to Clutch Controls during Power Off shifts•Clutch to Clutch Controls during Coast Downs•Clutch to Clutch Controls during Kick Downs•Clutch to Clutch Controls during Garage shift•Clutch Adaptation ControlsBasic Qualifications:•Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline•Minimum 10 year of experience, 6 in specialty. However, an advanced degree and/or academic research in a related field may count towards experience requirement•Experience in standard controls tools, modeling/simulation/development/testing/validation•Outstanding interpersonal and problem solving skills•A quick study, but one who is not afraid to ask for the help and support of the team•A self-starter who is able to work cross-functionally with other organizations•Must be able to work with multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical and controls)Preferred Qualifications:•Master of Science in an Engineering discipline•An affinity for cars, trucks, and automotive technologies•Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering•Knowledge of “C” programming language utilized in embedded code•Knowledge of MATLAB / SimulinkOur benefits reflects the FCA commitment to helping you reach your personal and professional goals.
