h3Working/Functional Title/h3 Mechanical Engineer/Designer h3Position Summary/h3 This position will provide mechanical engineering support and apply intensive and diversified principles and practices and makes independent decisions that apply to large academic institutions; visual inspection of mechanical construction work as necessary, analysis, and support of maintenance operations. Additionally, this position will provide mechanical engineering support and solutions to multiple campus stakeholders. The selected candidate should have experience working in a large campus environment. This position will be responsible for the Mechanical Engineering and Design of University Building HVAC and Plumbing Systems. This will include the assessment of existing building/campus HVAC/Plumbing systems, design or review of consultant design of new systems. Project management and field review of new mechanical system installations. Additionally, this position will provide mechanical engineering support and solutions to multiple campus stakeholders. The position will use CAD, and reference AHRAE, and SMACNA standards. The position will have to effectively communicate and coordinate mechanical engineering efforts with multiple engineering/arch disciplines and campus stakeholders. Duties associated with this position involves working at construction sites, access to work areas by ladder, scaffold, hatchways, ramps, and similar means; outdoor work on a variety of floor and ground surfaces including climbing and entry into confined spaces; visual inspection of construction work as essential elements of construction inspection, analysis, and support of maintenance operations functions. Successful candidate must be innovative and communicate well in a team environment and with campus stakeholders.brbrThe position will be on-call for emergencies on projects they are assigned outside of normal working hours.brbrThis position will engage in and actively practice IPF core values (Service Excellence, Innovation and Stewardship). h3Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills/h3 Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in mechanical engineering, HVAC Engineering Technology,Energy Management or equivalent. Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in mechanical engineering; including design, methods, materials, maintenance, and operation of HVAC/Plumbing systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. h3Desired Qualifications/h3 Five years of technical skills associated with project mechanical design, maintenance or construction experience is desired. Advanced course work in the field of mechanical engineering. Michigan Mechanical certificate/license or professional registration is desired. Experience in CAD, ASHRAE, and SMACNA standards; direct experience in all aspects of mechanical planning, design, and construction of laboratory, commercial and industrial building systems; ability to develop and interpret project documents (prints, contracts, etc.) and applicable fire, safety, building, mechanical, electrical, and health codes; knowledge and experience developing construction specifications and maintaining their compliance and adherence; experience in construction costs and scheduling; and experience in the maintenance of building systems.
