A Post-Doctoral (Research Associate) position is available in chloroplast biochemistry at Michigan State University in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Lundquist. We study the function and formation of plastoglobule lipid droplets associated with thylakoid membranes of plant chloroplasts. Plastoglobules are suggested to be major orchestrators of adaptive responses to environmental stresses in crops by facilitating remodeling of the thylakoid membrane. This USDA-funded project will employ omics approaches to establish the lipid and protein components of maize (corn) plastoglobules, their dynamic changes in response to environmental stresses, and their exchange with the thylakoid membrane. Candidates with experience in plant biochemistry/physiology or lipidomic/proteomic techniques are strongly encouraged to apply. The position will be initially for an appointment of one-year, renewable annually, contingent upon performance and availability of funding. The post-doc Research Associate will be responsible for designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, helping with manuscript and grant preparation, overseeing and training other lab personnel.
Description of duties:
Duties of the incumbent will include growth, maintenance, and physiological measurements of maize, subcellular fractionation, protein and lipid purifications, lipidomic and proteomics analyses, transmission electron microscopy, manuscript writing, and training of other lab personnel.
