Automotive Safety / Restraints (Seat Belts & Air Bags) Engineer

Job Description

The responsibilities for a Restraint Engineer include the following:

Leading the design/development of various restraint system components to ensure that both component and overall vehicle crashworthiness requirements and regulations are achieved.

Restraint system components for which an engineer is responsible will potentially include front/side/rollover airbags, seatbelts, crash detection sensors, and steering wheels.

Interfacing with internal engineering departments such as: Safety, Body Design, Interior Trim, etc. and external departments such as: Styling, Product Planning, Manufacturing, etc. to ensure that restraint system is optimally packaged within the vehicle and will meet customer expectations.

Managing suppliers to ensure components meet Quality, Cost, and Timing requirements.

These responsibilities are held throughout the vehicle development process from early digital design phases, the physical build / evaluation phase, and through the start of production.


  • Recent Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering is required

  • Strong analytical and technical skills.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office.

  • CAD skills preferred

  • 0-5 years of automotive engineering experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident for consideration
