Eaton Corporation Senior Controls Engineer in Galesburg, Michigan
Eaton’s Industrial Sector Controls Center of Excellence (CoE) Division is currently seeking a Senior Engineer to be part of our Galesburg MI team.
The primary function of this role is to be part of a team developing next generation powertrain embedded control systems. As a key member of the team, you will help define requirements, contribute to definition of electronics hardware design, design embedded system software architecture and algorithm solutions, define test plans and perform validation testing to confirm that system and functional requirements are met. In this role, you will be responsible for working with team members and your engineering manager to estimate development, resources and timing to achieve the desired results. You will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained by senior level embedded controls engineers and software architects to help grow your overall expertise and you will be expected to train and mentor less experienced engineers. You will work with engineers located in other locations in the U.S., India and China.

Help define embedded system level and algorithm requirements to meet product performance and reliability requirements. Help define and improve embedded controls standards and processes, and potentially contribute to industry technical papers and conferences.
Invent and develop embedded control system strategies and lead architecture design to achieve solutions. Use debugging and simulation tools to efficiently perform design iterations and optimization. Verify solutions created by you or other team members through simulation, sub-system, hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle level testing.
Drive implementation consistency across multiple resources contributing to the same embedded system architecture. Champion and document improvements to the engineering standard work processes we use to engineer our products.
Utilize FMEA process to enhance design robustness. Contribute to continued enhancement of Core Embedded Software to support additional product features.
Develop validation and verification test plans at a unit, sub-system and vehicle level to fully validate requirements. Analyze vehicle data from test and customer vehicles to investigate, identify, and resolve issues and performance complaints.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering discipline from a nationally accredited university.
2 years relevant experience with embedded control system applications or relevant engineering discipline.
Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required to be qualified for the job)
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline from a nationally accredited university.
Experience in embedded software development (C++, Model-based software, Simulink)
Expertise with Controller Area Networks (e.g. SAE-J1939, CANOpen)
Expertise with Vector tools such as CANape and CANalyzer.
The ideal candidate would have experience in, or knowledge of automotive drivetrain/powertrain systems and components.
Experience with change management and software release processes in a team environment
Experience with CAN/J1939 vehicle communication bus protocol.
Project management skills to assess task effort, manage priorities, and report status
Experience with Object-Oriented Matlab code/module generation.
Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license
Good communication skills with ability to interface directly with external partners, suppliers, and both internal and external customers
