In this role the Construction Products Designer works with internal manufacturing and external partners to commercialize new products.Principal Duties / Responsibilities•Design products to meet consumer needs that are aligned with business and product goals.•Determine product requirements including features, design attributes, and testing requirements that meet consumer and customer needs.•Perform analysis to determine proof of concept, product attributes, target markets, competition, and compatibility with UFP sales, manufacturing and distribution capabilities.•Create concept designs through sketching and 3D software.•Build proof of concepts and prototypes to meet product requirements in development shop or with plant operations and vendors.•Develop project plans consistent with the UFP product development process while managing scope, potential opportunity and risks on new projects.•Collaborate with outside manufacturers and vendors on sourcing, design, product attributes and testing.•Collaborate with UFP manufacturing plants to jointly develop products.•Coordinate with Category Marketing to maintain brand consistency when developing new products for existing product lines.•Determine best practice installation methods.•Effectively utilize consumer research to better meet consumer and customer needs.•Coordinate with engineering on testing.•Coordinate with legal on IP related matters and legal agreements.•Coordinate with Category Marketing on product marketing collateral.•Provide support for other department projects as needed.QualificationsKnowledge Required•Experience in the construction industry required.•Minimum of 10 years product engineering, innovation, industrial design or product development experience.•Proven successful track record of new product development and commercialization for construction sector.•Basic understanding of regional preference and innovative materials and processes within the construction industry.•Experience reading blueprints and must be aware of building codes and inspection regulations•Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent.•Experience with design thinking, industrial design or product engineering is a plus.•Experience using CAD or other equivalent construction design software is preferred.•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook.Skills and abilities•Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines.•Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels, customers and the public.•Display a high level of critical thinking in cross-functional process analysis and problem resolution for new products.•Demonstrated ability to cross-functionally collaborate, communicate and build consensus.•Ability to keep up with and recognize emerging trends in the construction industry.•Good written communication skills.•Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking.•D
