Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Engineer for employment in the Grand Rapids, MI office. AECOM is pleased to include you in a unique development opportunity, the Graduate Development Program (GDP). The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks

  • Develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities through assigned tasks

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations, design drawings, specifications, and visual aids

  • Assist with field work (e.g., groundwater and soil sampling, well installation, and contractor oversight)

  • Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance, and draft reports based on observed conclusions and professional judgment

  • Task manage portions of larger projects and mentor junior level staff or interns

  • Operates and maintains remediation systems

  • Builds analytic and design skills.

  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an

  • experienced engineer.

  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering

  • 0-2 years’ experience in environmental consulting or related field

  • Demonstrated technical writing abilities

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Ability to travel regionally for short-term overnight assignments

  • Valid US Driver’s License

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • U.S. Citizenship required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)

  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 Hour training

  • Contractor oversight experience

  • Construction inspection experience

  • Remedial investigation, remediation planning, or design experience

  • Previous field work, a plus

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models or other drainage and water modeling software)
