Job Description:

Dematic Corp has a need in our corporate office located in Grand Rapids, MI for a Controls Product Engineer 4 in our Research and Development group.

Experience & Education Requirements:

*Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or strong equivalent experience.

*8-10 years of experience in the material handling industry is preferred.

*Experience with Unigraphics NX or Inventor is highly preferred.

*Excellent analytical skills.

*Applications system experience preferred.

*UL, NEC, CE Standards experience preferred.

*Electronics experience preferred.

*Strong mechatronics abilities; a combined degree and experience in Mechanical/Electrical is highly preferred.

*Past experience with PLCs Siemens and Allen Bradley a plus

Job Family Responsibilities:

Develops very complex planning of detailed product development objectives. Guides preparation of very complex design layouts, and other specifications. Develops very complex review of results to determine that products perform in the intended manner. Develops very complex prototypes for testing and provides technical assistance on design feasibility. Develops standardization of very complex materials, components and assemblies. Develops and maintains detailed and comprehensive records of all inventive ideas, designs, and basic improvements. Guides documenting of product issues for future reference and problem resolution. Guides the review of very complex product designs to ensure designs and/or revisions avoid infringements of patents that are not controlled by the company. Works with Legal department to complete invention disclosure forms when unique IP has been developed. Works with Customer Service department to ensure product is performing adequately. Travel may be require to ensure proper installation at new sites and for troubleshooting if product is experience issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Performs advanced areas of work for the professional field. Applies advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently. Displays a high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-functional problems.


Typically BS/BA in related discipline or advanced degree. Certification may be required in some areas.

Knowledge and Experience:

Demonstrates and applies comprehensive knowledge of field of specialization to the successful completion of complex assignments. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization. Demonstrates significant knowledge of organizations business practices and issues faced and contributes to problem resolution of those issues. Typically 8-10 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, or experience for minimum degree requirement where applicable.

Provide specialized guidance or train support and/or professional staff. Leadership qualities and role model qualities demonstrated.
