Job Description

This position is the primary technical interface between customer application engineering teams and Tenneco internal teams, i.e. Core and Systems Engineering, Commercial Business Units, Program Management, Manufacturing and Quality.

  • Direct and promote technical communications between our organization and our customers.

  • Drive activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design problems and meeting technical targets.

  • Champion Total Value Management (cost savings) initiatives within your areas of responsibilities.

  • Leadership and negotiation of technical requirements, including customer and Tenneco sign-off

  • Leadership of RFQ design content to align with technical and commercial requirements

  • Leadership of RFQ Technical Review to demonstrate achievement of technical targets

  • Primary technical contact with customer during product development process

  • Coordination and communication of technical requirements and results between customer and Core Eng.

  • Technical coordination of customer vehicle prototype build activity and results

  • Lead communication of technical problem solving with customer

  • Engineering sign-off that product design meets customer requirements

  • Review final production products to ensure achievement of customer design intent

  • Technical coordination of customer vehicle build activity and results

  • Communication of design cost reduction opportunities with customer

  • Lead communication of technical problem solving with customer

  • Lead customer technical presentations

  • Engineering lead for customer launch readiness reviews

  • Evaluate and coordinate customer needs for new technologies.

  • Manage overall program resources and expenses to meet project budget requirements.

  • Oversee the release of all designs into customer data management systems

  • Represent Tenneco on site at customer locations as needed.

  • Frequent travel to customer, supplier, and Tenneco manufacturing locations.

  • Support and adhere to TA EH&S policies and procedures.

Required Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • BSME Degree required, advanced degree preferred.

  • Five to seven years’ automotive background required

  • Ability to travel to suppliers, plants, and customer locations to support development requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing experience

  • Product development engineering experience

  • Working knowledge of personal computers, perform spreadsheet calculations, graphics, program management, and presentations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of exhaust engineering

  • Knowledge of engineering predictive and analytical tools is desired.
