Northern Star Industries MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER in Iron Mountain, Michigan
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of innovative and customized product solutions. This position requires a high degree of analytical thinking, organizational skills, and a broad range of engineering skills. The successful applicant must have an aptitude for developing and executing creative and innovative ideas.
Develop new product solutions and perform product improvement reviews on existing products with the intent of improving manufacturability and performance
Specify and perform design verification testing, documentation and reporting
Provide aid in product release including administering ECN’s
Support estimating efforts by reviewing customer technical specifications and providing the appropriate feedback to ensure the best technical solution is offered to the customer
Lead trial and prototyping efforts to help validate new ideas
Engage in Rapid Improvement (Kaizen) activities
Design and program building frames using FrameCAD software
Lead problem solving efforts in the office and plant
Work with the Product Development team to coordinate and deploy new processes and products
Review drawings, assemblies and BOMs to ensure applicable industry and company standards are adhered to
Answer technical questions regarding current and future products
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
Minimum of 3 years manufacturing and fabrication experience
SKILLS
Proficient using solid modeling software (Creo preferred), 2D AutoCAD and MS Office Suite
Experience using finite element analysis software is preferred
Knowledgeable in Engineering Mechanics, Strengths of Materials, Welding and other manufacturing processes
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing
Must be a team player, creative, and have strong hands on mechanical knowledge
Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work on multiple projects at one time
