Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of the Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.Department SummaryThe Substation Planning Reliability - II group consists of a team of Engineers and an Engineering Technical Analyst responsible for LVD substation planning and LVD HVD substation reliability for the east side of CE's electric service territory.Job Description/ResponsibilitiesAn electrical engineer, preferably with power system analysis training or experience, is needed to be a part of the team. The team performs planning and coordination of new LVD substations to insure an adequate and reliable supply of electricity to our LVD customers. The team also studies proposed large LVD customer and generator interconnections and coordinates interconnection projects. Responsibilities also include reliability planning for LVD and HVD substations and compliance with NERC standards. Meet and communicate effectively with operational groups, engineering teams, right of way and construction groups, as well as communicate technical information with larger customers, generation developers, and all levels of CE management.This position is called on to:•Assess substation loading compared to thermal capacity.•Develop, justify, and propose new substations and substation reliability projects to meet planning criteria, customer needs, and reliability goals.•Analyze and coordinate large LVD customer projects•Review customers' request for interconnection of generators to the LVD system.•Oversee initiated capital projects, including schedule, cost, and scope while interfacing with various areas including: HVD Planning, LVD Lines Planning, LVD Engineering, System Protection, HVD Lines Design, Substation Design, IC, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, and Project Management.•Review and ensure compliance with various NERC standards.•Meet with customers to discuss their technical and electrical supply needs.This position can be located anywhere within the East Side Planning area.Requirements/Qualifications•Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program as set forth in the Engineers Council for Professional Development; power option preferredThe following skills and experience will set you apart from others:•Demonstrated leadership skills•Advanced degree•Professional Engineering (PE) license•Knowledge of substation planning•Experience working with SAP•Strong oral and written communication skills and customer relations skills•Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization•Knowledge and/or experience in utility operations•Self-motivated, organized, flexible•Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities•Must have a valid Driver's LicenseEssential FunctionsPlanning, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric and Gas Distribution and Electric Generation systems as well as facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations.
