Job Description The System Control Specialist Scheduler oversees the coordination and scheduling of HVD and LVD outages and lends support to System Control. This position reports to the Grid Management - System Operations Superintendent located in Jackson (Parnall East), Michigan.
Promote and maintain a safety culture within Grid Management that will provide a safe workplace for all Grid Management employees as well as our partners in the field.
Supervise and provide operational direction to “Real Time” operations to include reviewing/analyzing outages to ensure the electric system is operated in a safe, efficient and reliable manner.
Provide scheduling functions for the system control operations.
Ensure CE’s electric system operation complies with all applicable NERC requirements.
Ensure good working relationships are established and maintained with METC/ITC, MISO and CE customers.
Maintain NERC Certification.
High School Diploma or GED.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in an applicable field.
A Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field or extensive experience (internal/external) in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.
Successful completion of the Operator Qualifications for Consumers Energy System Control.
Switching & tagging
HVD/LVD switching experience
Ability to read wiring diagrams
Familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, TOA, OMS, SCADA, CROW
Monitors, controls and supports 24/7 operations of the Consumers Energy electric power distribution system to meet power demands.
Is responsible for the reliability of Consumers Energy’s high voltage distribution (HVD) electric systems to include complying with all applicable NERC standards.
Is responsible for analyzing and monitoring of HVD substations, lines, equipment and interconnection points with transmission providers for both normal and emergency restoration conditions.
Administers the switching and tagging on the CE HVD & LVD electric systems to ensure outages are executed in a safe, efficient and reliable manner as set forth by the policies, procedures and guidelines of Consumers Energy, NERC, ITC, MIOSHA, PMSC, MISO and RFC.
Monitors control board showing operating condition of lines and equipment throughout the system and makes adjustments or directs workers to make adjustments as conditions warrant.
Directs substations to de-energize malfunctioning circuits or adjust switches to ensure safety of maintenance crew and avoid interruptions of service during repairs.
Notifies maintenance crews of location and de-energization of troubled area and verifies that workers are clear of repaired equipment before directing energization of circuit.
Understands and follows company established standard procedures in order to complete work assignments.
Becomes familiar with business and department and company plans and related material for job assignments and be able to utilize the information appropriately.
Utilizes effective communication skills to answer inquiries and give direction to coworkers and clients.
Attends internal meetings.
Provides business analysis and support services in a legal and ethical manner.
Applies a comprehensive knowledge of electric operations to supporting GM Real-Time operations 24/7.
Has a supporting role for the safe and effective administration of outages related to Consumers Energy's (CE) High Voltage Distribution (HVD) and Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) electric system to include complying with all NERC standards applicable to CE's electricsystem.
Is responsible for conducting weekly scheduling meetings in the Scheduling Group and field construction meetings to plan and evaluate outages for HVD lines and substations, customer exits and the underground Metropolitan electric system.
Effective and thorough communication and attention to detail is practiced during discussions with individuals and departments responsible for operations of substations, lines and interconnection points with transmission providers to assure scheduled work does not jeopardize system security.
Scheduled Outages are prepared and coordinated to ensure outages are executed in a safe, efficient and reliable manner as set forth by the policies, procedures and guidelines of Consumers Energy and all applicable regulatory agencies that may include NERC, ITC, MIOSHA, MPSC, MISO and RFC.
General supervision is provided by the System Operations Superintendent; however, System Control Specialist Schedulers often work independently with team collaboration as necessary.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week, typically with 80% of time spent in the office and/or 20% spent in specific field locations.
