Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.The High Voltage Distribution Planning section of Customer Service Infrastructure within Electric Grid Integration analyzes and plans for the capacity of the Consumers Energy high voltage electrical system (46 kV and above), dedicated customer substations, and power quality monitoring. Large customer satisfaction is maintained by responding to requests for interconnection requirements and costs, along with power quality information. System improvement projects are planned to alleviate system problems that are identified. Planning studies are done to determine requirements and costs to support new interconnections including interconnection of distributed energy resources.An electrical engineer, preferably with power system analysis training or experience, is needed to perform planning of the electrical system, 46 kV and above, to ensure an adequate and reliable supply of electricity to our customers. As well as support integration of cleaner, leaner, more modular sources of electric supply with electric grid enhancements engineered for customer value.Key Responsibilities include:•Assess the 46 kV and above electrical system relative to thermal capacity, voltage, reactive capacity, short-circuit capability, and reliability additions•Develop, justify, and propose system improvement projects to meet compliance, planning criteria, customer needs, and reliability goals•Analyze and coordinate large customer projects, transmission company interconnections, and other utility additions•Study and coordinate generator interconnections including various distributed energy resources and renewable energy such as wind, solar, and battery storage.•Oversee initiated capital projects, including schedule, cost, and scope while interfacing with various areas including, System Protection, Lines Design, Substation Design, IC, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, and Project Management•Meet with customers to discuss their technical and electrical supply needs•Work with large amounts of data and provide concise reportsRequired Qualifications•A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program as set forth in the Engineers Council for Professional DevelopmentEssential FunctionsPlanning, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric and Gas Distribution and Electric Generation systems as well as facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations. Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, Practice Areas, and offices. Individual possesses the skills lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company's compliance standards. Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation.
