This position will support the development of the next generation AirDisc Brake technology by being responsible for managing and collecting field test results, addressing customer field issues, and reporting findings to the engineering team. The ideal candidate will be organized, have a strong desire to learn, have solid communication skills, as well as have a desire to be hands-on in problem solving.
Support Vehicle testing, product vehicle installations, product inspections and maintenance of test vehicles.
Trouble shoot product installations and operational issues.
Plans, conducts, and coordinates a broad range of technical assignments requiring an in-depth knowledge of basic techniques and principles and their applications
Will coordinate the technical activities of specific assignments
Has appreciable latitude for independent action and decision
Duties are performed from general instructions only, with minimum supervision
Willingly take ownership of assigned projects and drive for results
Anticipates problems, recognizes and eliminates barriers
Supports failure analysis on test parts and field returns
Gathers and accurately records numerical data for analysis by engineers
Install data acquisition systems and instrumentation into test vehicles including thermal couples, pressor sensors, and accelerometers.
Retrieval of test data and test logs from vehicles on tests.
Assist in development and maintenance of test procedures and instructions.
Document test results and observations, and write technical reports to document test results.
Follows and enhances safety procedures and use of personnel protective equipment.
Able to travel to test sites as necessary including TRC in E Liberty, Ohio, KRC in Houghton Michigan, Kalamazoo and Marshal Michigan.
Possesses mechanical nature and aptitude with experience in maintenance of automotive or heavy trucks.
Able to read blue prints, and electrical and pneumatic schematics.
Able to read, interpret, and apply test standard documentation including FMVSS, and SAE standards.
Familiar with typical mechanic tools
Experience with data acquisition equipment, electrical background and ability to use oscilloscopes, power meters, and other instruments a plus.
Possesses good oral and written communication and is comfortable communicating with customers and engineering team
Able to handle multiple conflicting priorities and to work in a cross-functional team in a dynamic working environment
Able to manage time and to prioritize efforts with other team members and accept the input of other team members in an open manner to achieve goals rapidly
Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a team environment
PC skills: Microsoft Office Suite
High school degree required, Associate Degree in Engineering Technology preferred
5 years of related technical experience, not required with Associate Degree.
Knowledge of air brakes and the commercial vehicle industry preferred
ASE certification is a plus
Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
