Job Summary

Black & Veatch has established itself as a leader in applying technological innovation to solve complex problems across many industries. The Advanced Energy Systems Engineer -Hydrogen position is an experienced-level role within our Thermal Generation Services team. We are looking for a qualified professional with a desire to lead and execute projects in the rapidly growing field of hydrogen technologies. The position presents the opportunity to contribute to a client-focused team delivering solutions to meet our clients’ most difficult challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical specialist providing consultation and guidance in hydrogen technologies. Collaborate across multiple business lines supporting pursuit activities and detailed engineering.

  • A thought leader in hydrogen technologies both internal and external to Black & Veatch. Actively fostering knowledge management and mentoring.

  • Supports business development and project pursuit activities. Identifies key client interests and drivers. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to project execution. As a client-facing role, responsibilities include growing client relationships.

  • Developing and applying advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of engineering work. Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Positive, team-first attitude with an entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Proven success developing industry leading solutions.

  • Demonstrated project application experience in the areas of major hydrogen technologies, electrolysis equipment and systems, compression and storage systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technologies and processes both technically and economically.

  • Green hydrogen plant/electrolysis system project application experience. Steam Methane Reforming and Autothermal Reforming experience and knowledge preferred.

  • Experience directly engaging clients on technical matters including conferences and workshops.

  • Knowledge of power generation and industrial technologies and trends.

  • Highly-developed critical thinking skills with proven problem-solving capabilities.

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.

  • 8 years related work experience.

  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
