Lansing Board of Water amp; Light Electric System Operator in Lansing, Michigan
Directs normal and emergency Electric TD system operations. Coordinates, regulates and distributes electricity in generating stations, substations and overhead electric power lines.Ensures that proper switching procedures and safety rules are enforced. This position has full operational authority to direct and implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the LBWL portion of the Bulk Electric System (BES) according to NERC and Reliability First operating standards. The authority to make real-time actions shall not require the approval, involvement, or presence of higher level personnel. This includes actions up to and including firm load shedding.Required: This position requires a minimum of four years' experience in the electric TD field and a thorough knowledge of TD systems.Knowledge of electrical disciplines equivalent to those obtained in the following positions will be considered: Electric Substation Inspector (ESI), Bulk Power Controller (BPC), PAMCON Electrician Journey worker, Line-Journey worker, or Cable Splicer Journey worker. Other acceptable equivalencies include: Minimum of eight years' experience as a Transmission Distribution Dispatcher; or Associates Degree in Electrical Power Technology; or LBWL Power Plant Control Room Operator A; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Must be able to effectively perform multiple duties and tasks simultaneously, and possess excellent problem solving, verbal and written communications skills. Must have the ability to handle and resolve high pressure situations and make decisions concerning the stable and reliable operation of the BES without seeking the approval from a higher level of authority.Must have valid MI driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel) and emergency management system skills as demonstrated by standardized assessment.Preferred: Previous experience as an Electric Substation Inspector or Bulk Power Controller is preferred and applicants with at least four years' experience is preferred.Reliability Coordinator Certification preferred.
