Summary:

Facebook is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer experienced in the design and operations of critical facilities to become part of our data center engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The data center design engineering team approaches facility design from the chips on the server boards to the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems which ensure and maximize efficiency of our compute infrastructure. This position is full-time.

Required Skills:

1. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define project electrical design criteria and manage change from project concept to substantial completion in order to meet the business and technical needs of Facebook. Role also requires collaborating with external partners

2. Interact and communicate Facebook requirements and needs to external partners, such as regional electric utility companies

3. Manage consultants to implement the project design through concept, construction documents, and construction administration

4. Provide construction administrative support to the project manager and consultants with tasks including, but not limited to, responding to RFI’s, issuance of technical bulletins, review submittals and shop-drawings, and conducting source inspections at vendor factories

5. Develop and update the design standards and specifications for consistency and maximum system reliability

6. Understand, develop and update electrical sequence of operations to ensure system reliability alignment with Facebook design philosophies

7. Management of electrical OFCI program which includes review of BOM, spec compliance and travel to equipment manufacturing venues for Factory Witness Testing (FWT)

8. Participate in and document the data center commissioning (Integrated System Test) for greenfield data center projects

9. Provide and analyze energy efficient solutions to minimize power losses

10. Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required (Approximately 25%)

11. Participate in equipment failure or power outage related incident Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA)

12. Provide guidance to design consultants, installation contractors and validate quality of installed works

13. Assist in management of the Design Change Management Process

14. Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, or related degree

2. Electrical Professional Engineer registration, or working towards it

3. Minimum of five (5) years professional experience in data center design, construction, operations, and/or maintenance

4. Knowledge of medium voltage (115kV, 35kV, 12kV) substation design, mission critical power distribution, UPS, PDU, and Electrical Power Management/SCADA systems

5. Knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NFPA, UFC and UBC

6. Familiar with construction process and cost estimating process

7. Knowledge of High Voltage electrical safety programs and local regulations

8. Knowledge of cross-discipline (i.e. Mechanical, Building Management Systems, Fire Alarm/Fire Protection, etc.) of complete critical facility systems

9. Troubleshooting and analytical skills

10. Experience providing solutions to complex projects under pressure

11. Familiar with AutoCAD or Revit, Visio, Bluebeam, and SKM software

12. Communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Electrical Professional Engineer registration

2. Experience in load management at the operations level

3. Experience on Data center or mission critical design, construction and operations
