State of Michigan MDOT Transportation Engineer 9-12 (Pavement Investigation Engineer) Field Services in Lansing, Michigan
As the Pavement Investigations engineer, plan, schedule, and undertake pavement investigations to determine how pavements are performing in regard to their expected lifespan. Coordinate and utilize specialized equipment, such as ground penetrating radar, to measure pavement properties and distresses. Evaluate collected data to determine how pavements are performing and if they are failing, why. Manage statewide contracts to provide as-needed pavement coring and underdrain inspection services for new project acceptance and for investigative purposes. Assist with the administration of the Department's ride quality program. Manage contracted pavement-related research activities. Utilize and evaluate new technologies for pavement investigation.

Required Education and Experience
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering. Note: We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor of science degree in engineering by December 31, 2020.
Transportation Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
Transportation Engineer 12
Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11. Alternate Education and Experience
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
