Job Description

This position is within the Product Engineering Braking Business Unit, Engineering Quality Department, Functional Safety North America Group.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Safety Case Engineering and Requirements Management for Braking Engineering

  • Work closely with product design and development teams to ensure ISO26262 (Functional Safety) standards are implemented through projects lifecycles for mechatronic products – EPB and Slip Control

  • Work with colleagues in US and Germany to develop an efficient approach to apply Functional Safety standards to our pure mechanical projects

  • Conduct change and problem analysis with the result that our system safety requirements are refined, verified and reported in a timely fashion (methods, interdependencies between system elements, model-based engineering)

  • Transfer of derived and refined safety requirements into a formal specification which case-by-case will be mapped to and negotiated with customers to maximize re-use of Division A data

  • Verification of suitable completion of Safety Case work products: Checking interfaces, ensuring appropriate progress and verification of safety requirements

  • Leading functionally diverse and geographically diverse project teams in both the process & methods elements of ISO26262 as well as the technical aspects (e.g. how to properly conduct and report FTA or SW ETA)

  • Leading Application Development team in development, planning and execution of special case vehicle level validation testing (conduct at Division A test tracks or rented facilities as appropriate)

  • Serve as main point of contact for customer staff and teams involved in Functional Safety: this typically involves periodic meetings at customer sites, and global telecons to bring in both customer and Division A globally distributed teams

  • Publish and deliver training material to bring Division A staff up-to-speed with ISO26262

  • Carry discussions with Division A senior engineering managers, derive needs for training or gaps in understanding in the objectives and methods of Functional Safety

  • Travel to Germany and other European locations for workshops and information sharing with Functional Safety colleagues in other Business Units (Electronics, Steering, etc)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required

  • At least 5 years of experience working in the areas of system design and development of mechatronic systems for automotive chassis systems or similar

  • Experience and knowledge of ISO26262 and key Safety Case work products required

  • Understanding and Experience with PTC Integrity and DOORS highly preferred

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident cb
