Position Summary: The Controls Engineering Leader is responsible for leading the controls engineering team through effective communication and project management of electrical, programming and safety engineering activities from the problem state to the solution validation state for the Marysville Plant.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal customers, and suppliers in the definition of optimum design solutions and standards as well as resolving technical problems

  • Develop controls engineering specifications for all equipment manufacturers within the area you lead and use these specifications to improve the new equipment purchase process within the plant

  • Support project management by maintaining project tasks in the business unit’s project management system in a timely manner

  • Ability to coach your team through PLC programming with Siemens, Rockwell and Fanuc along with CNC control platforms for Fanuc and Siemens

  • Plan, test, and coordinate the implementation of preventive actions in the production lines in order to

establish and verify capable and stable production processes in terms of safety, quality, delivery, and cost

  • Manage department performance by reviewing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implementing other metrics where applicable

  • Assign, check work and track progress, initiate, train and motivate employees, champion individual and team efforts, and aid in the development of professionals to achieve individual leadership and company goals and objectives

  • Identify tools/equipment needs and organizational skill requirements, assess gaps in key skill areas and engineering capacity, implement strategy to close the gaps and strengthen the organization, overall engineering efficiency

  • Provide tools for direct reports to achieve goals and receive plant support (in terms of personnel, equipment, training, etc.)

  • Maintain a safe, productive work environment for the employees satisfying ZF quality standards and policy

  • Ensure positive employees relations and provide support for annual employee feedback survey

  • Lead continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies

  • Ensure departmental compliance with all TS16949 and ISO-14001 requirements, ZF corporate policies, as well as Divisional and Business Unit directives

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering (Preferred BSEE) and 8+ years experience in a manufacturing/assembly CE role.

  • 2 years of project management or lead experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity with plant operations, including machining or assembly

  • 5 years or more of experience in PLC programming with Siemens, Rockwell and Fanuc

  • Ability to design electrical and electronic control systems for machine processes

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products

  • Basic English language competency required

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D or 3D design

  • Proven ability to work independently and lead engineering staff, professionals, and management with decisiveness and diplomacy

  • Proven knowledge and ability in methods of communication, motivation, negotiation, and conflict management skills with a high level of initiative/drive

  • Developed knowledge of poke yoke solutions to utilize within the process to reduce rejects/downtime

  • Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Preferred Skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering

  • In-depth knowledge in vehicle powertrain technology

  • Experience working with gas fired heat treat furnaces and endothermic gas generators

  • Experience working with and troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic and fluid control system designs

  • Familiarity with financial reporting statements

  • German Language Skills

  • Working knowledge of vision systems and ability to troubleshoot the issues TS16949 awareness
