DuPont Transportation and Industrial (T&I) has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Embedded Analytical team as an Analytical Chemist at the Larkin site, in Midland, MI. You will be a key technical resource responsible for independently developing methods, maintaining instrumentation, generating reliable data, interpreting data, and using thermal analysis techniques that include DSC, TGA, and TMA. You will be expected to develop a close working relationship with Technical personnel at all levels within the organization to provide technical support for the R&D, TS&D (Technical Service and Development), and Manufacturing organizations. This position is also responsible for providing Reactive Chemistry expertise to the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Function as a Thermal Analysis Subject MatterExpert (SME) within T&I.

  • Calibrate and maintain thermal analysisequipment; Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis(TGA) and Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA).

  • Develop, validate, document thermal analysismethods and results.

  • Communicate results effectively tostakeholders and other interested parties.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge inthe RC (Reactive Chemistry) discipline to provide reactive chemicals expertisesupport across the company.

  • Partner with manufacturingand R&D to appropriately quantify and manage the reactive chemical hazardsassociated with chemical processes and facilities byperforming calculations and database searches and/or designing experiments,performing data collections/interpretation, and providing consulting support.

  • Operate and maintain multiple RC instruments; ARC, DSC, heat of mixing,TSU, Flash Point, AIT.

  • Provide advancedtrouble shooting support for RC issues and provide advice to project andleadership on best path forward.

  • Fulfill all requirements of group, site, andcompany safety, ethics, and quality programs.

  • Effectively balance workloads to meet businesspriorities while functioning in a multi-project environment.

  • Willingness to develop expertise in otheranalytical areas.


  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Chemistry,Chemical Engineering or equivalent

  • Demonstratedtechnical expertise (depth of knowledge and ability) in thermal analysis (TGA,DSC, TMA)

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot andconduct minor repairs on analytical equipment.

  • Functional breadth of knowledge and abilityacross several common instrumental analytical techniques

  • Excellent written and oral communicationskills

  • Demonstratedwork habits that emphasize quality and a high standard for interpersonalinteractions, organization, initiative, team spirit, decision-making, workethic, and safety

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly andmultitask
