DuPont Transportation & Industrial is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Technician to join our team in Midland, MI. If you are an outgoing individual with great communication skills, then this is the role for you.

The Midland Automotive Adhesives & Fluid Unit is a part of Michigan Operations, one of DuPont’s largest sites and home to manufacturing operations representing 3 of DuPont’s 4-businesses. The Midland Automotive Unit produces glass bonding primers and urethanes, brake fluids, and plastic bonding adhesives to supply OEM, tiered, and aftermarket automotive customers.

The EH&S Tech position is responsible for the maintenance of environment, health and safety management systems, work processes, standards and procedures to meet business and site objectives relating to the Automotive Adhesives & Fluids Unit. The EH&S Technician will work closely with unit personnel and members of the site EH&S Team to ensure excellent health and safety performance and full compliance with requirements.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in facility H&S performance improvement efforts.

  • Facilitate root cause investigations.

  • Conduct internal plant audits and assessments (e.g. safety, housekeeping, and compliance).

  • Creation and presentation of high-quality monthly safety meetings.

  • Update, maintain and rollout of new H&S Safety Standards, tools and work processes.

  • Help to establish, track and drive improvement in key H&S performance metrics (training, corrective actions, housekeeping, compliance task completion etc.).

  • Prepare H&S reports for company and regulatory agencies as necessary.

  • Completion of corrective actions from audits, assessments and incident investigations.

  • Challenge/question work practices in an effort to continuously improve them.

  • Fully support the initiatives of EH&S both as a business and a site.

  • Maintain H&S operating discipline.


The following are required:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 5+ years of relevant environmental, health, and safety work experience OR an Associate’s Degree or higher in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Science, or related discipline and 2+ years of environmental, health, and safety experience

  • Basic computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Be a self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks

  • Be responsive to client's needs through proper planning and prioritization

  • The ability to work independently and overcome obstacles to achieve results with limited supervision

  • Successfully work with a variety of individuals to achieve facility goals

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence teams to desired result

  • The ability to lead by example

  • Must be committed to a continued process of learning and support this behavior in others

  • Quickly learn and apply evolving EH&S requirements

  • Learn new tools and techniques as focus areas evolve over time

  • Willing and able to work on-call hours as needed

  • Willing and able to stand or sit for extended periods

  • Willing and able to work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions

  • Willing and able to climb and/or work in elevated areas

The following are preferred:

  • B.S. degree in a science-related discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience in a similar position of relevant Health and Safety work experience.

  • Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
