Nine Month Contract

Must be local to Midland/ Saginaw or Surrounding Area

Kelly Services is seeking a Laboratory Technologist for our client, a global chemical company, in Midland, MI. This position is for nine months.

Work Schedule:

Standard Day Shift Hours - Monday thru Friday

The Process Development group is responsible for developing new and improved processes for new and existing chemical products. The person filling this position will work in a self-directed team of chemists, engineers, and technologists and will be responsible for performing a wide variety of laboratory activities associated with product & impurity synthesis, large & small scale sample preparations, analysis & characterization of all products, and process & unit operation evaluations.

Preferred experience & knowledge:

  1. Prior experience in organic, inorganic, organo-metallic, and/or catalytic synthesis, using inert atmosphere techniques is preferred;

  2. Prior experience in constructing and running laboratory glass reactor systems and associated equipment is required;

  3. Prior experience in running large scale (10-30 liter) glass reactor systems for multi-step sample preparations and understanding the safety ramifications is preferred;

  4. Prior experience in liquid/liquid separations, including phase separations and vacuum distillations and operation is preferred;

  5. Prior experience in product purification by silica gel chromatography and crystallization is preferred;

  6. Understanding of EH&S requirements for chemical operations is required;

  7. Prior experience in physical and chemical characterization (e.g. NMR, IR, GC, HPLC, or GC/MS, etc.) is preferred;

  8. Good computer skills preferred, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, and problem solving skills required;

  9. Must be a team player and able to work safely in a self-directed team environment.

  10. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with cross functional teams and ability interface with critical lab services such as analytical, maintenance, glass shop, etc.

  5. Responsible for setting up experimental apparatus and conducting experiments.

  6. Responsible for gathering experimental data from a variety of unit operations.

  7. Responsible for generation of multi-step campaigns to produce large Business samples.

  8. Responsible for proper documentation of all research data.

  9. Responsible for meeting the EH&S compliance needs
