The Diagnostic Calibration Engineer is responsible for leading development, validation/verification, and compliance of the vehicle level Onboard Diagnostic system. A typical week includes in-vehicle calibration & testing, lab/bench/analytical activities, and collaboration with algorithm/software and hardware engineers.

We're seeking a motivated candidate for a Diagnostic Calibration Engineer position in GM's HVAC/Powertrain Cooling/Thermal Development group at the Milford Proving Ground. The selected candidate will work on all GM's vehicle programs and be responsible for leading, developing, releasing, validation, and compliance of the on-board diagnostic controls and calibrations.

The position involves significant in-vehicle and lab work, along with related analytical and performance verification activities. Diagnostic Calibration engineers engage in cross-functional teams, are expected to handle multiple projects/priorities, and frequently need to balance planned and unplanned work.

The Diagnostic Calibration engineer participates in offsite development trips as well as onsite program team vehicle evaluations.

Role & Responsibilities : :

  • Manage overall diagnostic development plan

  • Execute Engineering Standard Work

  • Plan and perform diagnostic performance evaluations (DOE)

  • Provide calibration leadership for product line diagnostic strategies

  • Point contact or vertical diagnostic representative of the product team

  • Support the verification group on assembly plant and field issues

  • Program team representative to CPIT, VEC Diagnostic PDT, Safety PDT, OBDII COE, Export PDT, Certification, Validation, Powertrain, and other strategy meetings

  • Interface for certification

  • Execute individual training

  • Adhere to all Safety Precautions and Requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities

  • Coordinate the development plans to meet diagnostic requirements for all Regions of sale

  • Lead standardized in-vehicle engine calibration work execution

  • Develop and assemble calibrations, working in concert with Calibration Specialists, DRE’s and Platform Engineers

  • Coordinate the testing of powertrains for compliance to OBD II Regulations

  • Manage production issues, warranty and JD Powers improvement

  • Be the point contact or vertical diagnostic representative of the product team

Required Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree (ME or EE preferred)

  • Minimum 2 years of on-board vehicle diagnostic calibration experience

  • Minimum 3 years of calibration experience

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering industry experience

  • CARB OBD regulation knowledge

  • Understanding of HVAC/powertrain cooling, engine controls as it relates to OBD II requirements

  • Ability to travel as required for offsite testing

  • DFSS Green Belt

  • Demonstrated teamwork and consensus building skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communications

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

  • 5+ years of calibration experiencein powertrain cooling engine, transmission, electrification (hybrid/EV) systems

  • Electric Cooling Fan Hardware knowledge

  • HVAC/Powertrain Cooling system performance knowledge

  • Experience with software processes / change control

  • Experience working with CARB/EPA on OBD regulations

  • Excellent planning and organizing skills

  • Master’s degree in engineering

  • DFSS Black Belt
