The Family Feature Owner will be responsible for taking high level Transmission System feature concepts and translating them into Feature, System and Subsystem detailed requirements for controls, software and hardware teams to implement. In many cases, concepts are not always well defined and the requirement generation can involve considerable research, investigation, Simulation, and Math to be transformed into publishable requirements.
The Family Feature Owner is the technical lead of a large team of Function engineers and therefore, must be a highly effective leader, communicator and collaborator. The FFO must also be an expert with Transmission embedded controls, analysis, Fault Propagation, Fault maturation and remedial action strategies, have a strong background in ASIL D safety systems.
I) Comprehend System Functional Requirements
Technical leader of a large group of function engineers to define all aspects of vehicle Transmission Systems. Mentoring, guidance and review of Function Engineers work products
Work with adjacent teams to gather customer facing requirements (NVH, Performance, functionality, Diagnostics, Remedial actions)
Reference System Safety Hazard Analysis and partition safety hazard requirements to functions
Comprehend applicable government regulations
Integration of Transmission System into the vehicle including interfacing with other subject areas (steering, Propulsion, Active Safety, etc.)
II) Define Functional Controls and Hardware Requirements
Define remedial actions based on fault detection, Propagation and Maturation.
Define context diagram and hardware integration of the functions
Define the functional and physical partitioning of requirements to ECUs.
Define function’s interface requirements (including aging, build variation, Noise factors, environmental factors, conflicting constraints, etc.)
Define functional requirements and mapping of inputs to outputs
Define/support creation of Braking System Performance Requirements creation and actuator and sensor performance requirements (HW)
Define how inputs to the function are used to transform the outputs (latency, overshoot, oscillation, etc.)
Define calibratable aspects of the function
Define diagnostic, degraded state and remedial action requirements
Define use cases and measurable/objective performance requirements for normal and degraded states
Define signal/data retention requirements
Lead System/Subsystem DFMEAs and participate in design level DFMEAs
Mange requirements in and with GM requirements tool suite (Doors, RTC)
Additional Job Description
Qualifications - Required:
Bachelors Degree of Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, Information Technology or Chemistry
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience with Vehicle Transmission Systems
Expert understanding of the physics related to vehicle Transmission Systems
Ability make sense of uncertainty and translate into the understandable
Ability to interface effectively with Suppliers and GM in-house Controls/Software teams
Experience with Requirements management tools (i.e. Doors)
Experience with Change management tools (i.e. Rational Team Concert, aka RTC)
Background using simulation environments and Plant modeling for fault insertion analysis, testing, requirements generation (Matlab/Simulink, CarSim, D-Space, ETAS, other)
High level of analytical problem solving ability, including independent judgment and decision making skills, where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Qualifications - Desired:
Masters or PHD in Engineering with an emphasis on Controls or Mechatronic Systems
Minimum of 7 years of experience with ASIL D safety systems
Minimum of 7 years of experience with Vehicle Dynamics/Kinematics
Experience with OBD regulations/requirements
