Job Description

Systems Integration Engineer – Thermal Systems

Systems Engineering is a multidisciplinary organization that has been chartered with the goal of pulling together the highly complex and interconnected ecosystem that is the modern day automobile. Systems Engineering transcends the physical nature of any specific design, cutting across traditional engineering disciplines to allow for a customer focused execution of vehicle level features and systems.

As a primary role, the Systems Integration Engineer (SIE) – Thermal Systems will be engaged with the thermal development teams, thermal controls and diagnostic teams, vehicle development teams, systems safety, validation, customer interface, and subsystems teams associated thermal features and systems, ensuring the features and systems are integrated properly and verified to meet feature / system requirements.

Systems Integration Engineer Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain system development plans for thermal systems which may be applied to Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), and/or Autonomous Vehicle (AV) applications.

  • Verify feature functionality per system architecture variant on a bench/vehicle to ensure feature intent and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Execute evaluation at periodic intervals including initial release and subsequent releases with major changes for earliest possible identification of feature or system gaps to expectations.

  • Work with feature owners, system engineers and lead system validation engineers to ensure appropriate test cases are in place for all use cases (examples: normal operation, failed operation)

  • Support automation, performance and/or validation engineer to allow for automated feature regression testing

  • Educate/train/support/mentor new and less experienced Systems Integration Engineers

  • Provide program-focused support as required:

  • Integration support for development trips

  • Assembly plant and field problem resolution

  • Durability / Captured Test Fleet issues

  • Red X activities

  • Usage profile definition/refinement

  • Support feature benchmarking and clinic activities

  • Assist feature owner and system engineers in determining evaluation parameters and methods

  • Collect, summarize and interpret results as needed.

Required Qualifications / Education / Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years of post-graduation product development or TRACK development experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary, and globally distributed teams

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • DFSS Greenbelt (GM Internal)

  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle

  • Ability to travel as needed (5% max)

Preferred Qualifications / Education / Experience:

  • Thermal, energy, or battery development/release experience

  • System integration / development experience

  • Subsystem or vehicle testing and instrumentation experience

  • Knowledge and experience with GM’s Global Vehicle Development Process

  • DFSS Blackbelt (GM Internal)

Workplace Location

GM Milford Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan. This role may require frequent on-site support of vehicle, component testing, and related preparation, in various labs, garages, and offices throughout the Milford Proving Ground site.
