The Design Engineer is responsible for developing new designs for automotive suspension components or modifying existing components on production vehicles according to ZF Chassis Components design guidelines. Directs the manufacture, modification and testing of vehicle components.
Perform ball joint and control arm design engineering and automotive suspension components related analysis as required to support internal and external customers.
Design suspension products within the ZF Chassis Components guidelines to reach required functional and safety requirements.
Provide contact and technical representation to customers, production plants, and suppliers.
Draw suspension component design sketches and perform/coordinate mathematical computations to develop product designs and detailed specifications of components.
Coordinates test and product development engineering activities.
Direct the release and maintenance of drawings and bills of material (BOMs).
Support System and Design FMEA with engineering quality department.
Define, design, and release modifications to parts and customer-specific parts for existing base chassis.
Manage day-to-day activities of a project from design through launch.
Create and modify 3D models and drawings using CatiaV5 and Enovia systems
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) and 3+ years of experience in suspension components as a product engineer or design engineer.
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
Proficient knowledge of technical aspects of suspension component applications engineering and ball joint product design/development. Ability to create and explain common DFMEA for suspension components.
Strong knowledge and understanding of common suspension component specifications and test criteria, ball joint hysteresis, torque curves and relationship to wear performance (specifically within a chassis and/or automotive context)
Proficient with Catia V5, Enovia, iQFMEA and Microsoft Office software
Familiar with PDM systems and management of BOM systems
