Mechatronics Engineer (TCU) Northville

Responsible for the design, engineering, and development of ZF MECHATRONIC products, which ensure new or modified products are able to be manufactured, cost-effective, meet customer specifications, and maintain company standards, in addition to supporting internal departments in order to support business development, capacity, and continuity.

Position Responsibilities:

• Participate in all stages of product design, development and documentation (concept through manufacturing) for new and current mechatronic product components

• Work with Systems Engineer in creating and assessing performance requirement for the mechatronics design.

• Provide leadership in mechatronic design and development activities between the customer and ZF internal departments.

• Take action necessary to develop alternatives to problems and/or schedule delays; resolve problems with customers and internal departments.

• Design, develop and evaluate component parts and materials to achieve design integrity and acceptability.

• Participate in formulating the engineering strategy on estimating the cost of product designs and applications.

• Assist in the preparation of engineering cost analysis for customer inquiry and company product.

• Assist in the preparation of information packages, drawings, mock-up and product samples to demonstrate the company technical capability to customers, suppliers and internal functions.

• Support sales and marketing with technical assistance including customer product applications, problem resolution and customer presentations.

• Document ideas for purposes of patent protection and provide product information for patent documentation purposes.

• Use and recommend analytical studies of motion, stress, forces and tolerance stack up to assure product function and reliability (e.g. FEA).

• Achieve an acceptable product design through the use of CAD Engineering Software.

• Ensure that an approved detailed drawing package is provided of final product design.

• Initiate and monitor the assembly of prototypes and resolve design problems and document changes.

• Initiate product manuals and engineering change notices (ECN's) per procedure.

• Investigate new technologies in the industry and consult with suppliers to obtain latest technology information.

• Perform benchmark analyses on ZF mechatronic products compared to competitor products and assess value-add of components and design features.

• Participate in qualifying and approving suppliers and hardware.

• Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.

• Ensure compliance with the ZF Quality Management System requirements (ZF QMS) which includes IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and Customer Specific Requirements (CSR).

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• B.S. in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or related engineering field

• 3 – 4 years of experience (internship/co/op included)

• Knowledge of thermodynamics and heat management for electronics

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office

• Proficient with CATIA and/or Siemens NX software

• Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management

• Excellent project management and planning abilities

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Strong drive for teamwork with a customer-oriented approach to projects

• Superior interpersonal, communications and listening skills

• English language competency – both oral and written

• Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 25%)

Preferred Skills and experience:

• Experience with CREO 2.0

• Experience in the Automotive and/or Electronics industries.

• German and/or Spanish language skills
