Novelis CSC Co-Op- Product Design in Novi, Michigan
The Intern or Co-Op will be assisting or completing automotive design studies for the Novelis Customer Solution Center (CSC) through product design, analysis, benchmarking and testing. The student will delve into design studies of specific components or systems within automotive structures. The student will work with experienced engineers to complete the project and report results.
Preform design studies that include benchmarking products and bills of material, studying design alternatives through spreadsheet study that will progress to 3D design and/or analysis, and documenting test results
Complete failure analysis on developmental material and field parts
Participate in benchmarking of OEM parts and competitor materials to determine best-in-class material usage
Support new and on-going Technical Development, Technical Service and Customer Solution Center projects
Report out final results in a term-ending presentation to Novelis Novi management
3rd or 4th year Bachelor’s student obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Familiar with 3D design (with CATIA) preferred
Experience with analysis using FEA tools, formability analysis, cost calculation and testing
Basic principles of automotive structural design and metallurgy preferred
General knowledge of mechanical design
Basic CAD modeling experience is a plus
Capability to thrive in team environment, communicate well, and to engage and influence wide variety of stakeholders throughout organization.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
