Job Description

AsFunctional Safety Lead Engineer (Electric Vehicle Systems)you are responsible for defining the safety requirements for electric vehicle systems for various vehicle classes. You collaborate with the design team to develop, implement and validate effective solutions. Electric vehicle systems; vehicle control unit, battery management, power electronics, and E/E architecture (high voltage). Our extensive customer portfolio includes a spectrum of major manufacturers from luxury and sports car segments to commercial vehicles including highly advanced technical applications. Your job responsibilities will include:

  • Moderate and lead safety analyses (HARA, FTA, FMEDA, FMEA, DFA)

  • Coordinate and lead all activities related to functional safety and serve as primary point of contact for safety topics internally and with the customer

  • Develop and customize safety concepts for our customers from design through release for production i.e. for electric powertrains and E/E architectures

  • Collect, analyze and specify safety requirements on various hardware and software systems/subsystems

  • Initiate, establish and maintain the safety case according to the safety plan

  • Recommend release of the safety case for the project

  • Support functional safety verification and validation

  • Present results and report progress to internal and external customers, stakeholders and auditors

  • Occasional business travel - approximately 20% annually, both domestic and international

  • Developing and extending professional networks within Bosch and to external business partners


Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Quality Engineering

  • Minimum 3 years of automotive experience in powertrain controls systems or electric systems

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in safety engineering

  • Minimum 1 year experience with the safety standard ISO 26262, preferably also with other safety standards

  • Minimum 1 year experience with working in a customer facing role

  • Valid driver’s license


  • 5 years of automotive experience in powertrain controls systems or electric systems

  • 1 or more years of development experience in power electronics or DC/DC or battery (software, hardware or controls)

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with professional and positive attitude

  • Ability to work in a global development team

  • Highly self-motivated, results oriented with desire to establish a new business area

  • Pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit
