What You Will Do

You will deep dive into advanced energy storage systems as an individual component or as part of an integrated propulsion system for use in electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research into advanced vehicle energy storage systems (ESS) to support future vehicle applications.
  • Evaluate available and emerging energy storage technologies and their application to new propulsion architectures
  • Develop methods for ESS SOC estimation, aging, cell balancing, D&P and protection.
  • Support the design and fabrication of battery packs and modules through requirement capture.
  • Develop simulation tools and models for rapid prototyping and validation of energy storage system design concepts.
  • Integrate ESS into existing and future vehicle and mobility systems
  • Write timely and high-quality research reports, external publications and records of invention to document new ideas and research results.
  • Interact closely with divisional staffs and development partners to meet project objectives.
  • Work independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of electrical engineers and material scientists
  • Participate in technical discussions and reviews as an expert in electrochemical energy storage systems.
  • Generate innovative ideas, suggest new project areas, and establish technical plans
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments affecting areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and/or related science or technology degree preferred.
  • Strong background in battery and supercapacitor technologies, materials and chemistries.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in electrochemical energy storage and conversion technologies (e.g. batteries, supercapacitors and energy harvesting devices)
  • Experience with battery monitoring systems
  • Experience in modeling of energy storage components and systems and their interactions with electric drive system components.
  • Experience in diagnosis and prognosis of energy storage system state of health.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
