Join us as Principal Systems Engineer and help us advance neurosurgery. You will play a critical and influential part in an ambitious cross divisional, multi-phase program integrating smart surgical tools, diagnostic, therapeutic and data analytic platforms into an intelligent neurosurgical ecosystem. You will work closely with technical and business leads from multiple business units representing a diverse and robust array of surgical instrumentation, such as imaging, visualization, navigation, robotics, powered resection devices and advanced energy platforms, including RF electrocautery and ultrasonic systems. You will use your knowledge in the software, electrical, computer systems and mechanical aspects of these platforms and your ability to develop connecting interfaces to bring them together into a seamless intelligent ecosystem. Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to partner closely with globally renowned surgeons, multi-disciplined Operating Room clinical teams and marketing as we collectively advance neurosurgery and transform the lives of patients.
You will provide critical product and project leadership.
You will play a role in all aspects of a product lifecycle from Concept through Market Release and Sustaining. During the Concept Phase, you will work to understand stakeholder needs and clinical use.
You will translate those needs to concepts and new inventions. During Development, Systems Engineers are responsible for ensuring the design meets the user needs through requirements identification and requirements decomposition.
You will achieve results using a variety of system engineering techniques such as: traceability, architecture, modeling, trade studies, simulation, and budgeting. Systems Engineers are also responsible for ensuring the systems get integrated and may lead the Verification and Validation efforts.
As a Principal Systems Engineer in R&D you will be a leader in the Systems Engineering organization.
You will understand and work the priorities of the business and lead Systems Engineering efforts on large projects with multiple systems engineers.
You will develop talent by training and mentoring team members and championing best practices, such as INCOSE or DFx.
You will have general Sales and Marketing knowledge
You will understand Clinical and Procedural Needs
You will be the voice of the customer and partner with our customers, which include both internal and external key opinion leaders to develop technical strategies that meet clinical needs; Strategize and execute customer facing activities like voice of customer and customer centric design across the business.
You will be operating in a Regulated Environment and expected to be an expert in standards and regulations that affect the business such as Design Control. You will also be an expert in full development lifecycle from concept to product release
You will provide accurate documentation and communicate clearly in writing
Technical – Systems Engineering:

What You Need
Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field (Biomedical, Software, Electrical, or Mechanical preferred)
8+ years of experience in any of the following areas: software, electrical, or mechanical engineering in the medical device industry, or systems engineering in a regulated industry, or project management in a regulated industry
Experience in a variety of projects and skills
A natural ability to communicate
A natural ability to build interpersonal relationships with their team based on trust
A natural ability to influence their peers with strong levels of command and courage
Expert knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14971
INCOSE CSEP certified, or equivalent
